IGEL Named a Finalist in the 2020 CRN Tech Innovator Awards

The IGEL UD3 recognized for leadership in the “Workspace and Collaboration Devices” category; IGEL OS 11 featured among the top solutions in the “Office Productivity Software” category

SAN FRANCISCO, November 9, 2020 – IGEL, provider of the next-gen edge OS for cloud workspaces, is pleased to announce that CRN®, a brand of The Channel Company, has named IGEL as a finalist in the 2020 CRN Tech Innovator Awards. This year, the IGEL UD3 and IGEL OS 11 are being recognized in the “Workspace and Collaboration Devices” and “Office Productivity Software” categories, respectively.

The annual CRN Tech Innovators program honors innovative vendors in the IT channel across 49 technology categories, in key areas ranging from cloud to security to storage to networking. CRN editors assessed hundreds of vendor products along multiple criteria, including uniqueness, key capabilities, technological competency, and addressing customer needs.

“IGEL’s software-driven, platform-independent approach to cloud workspaces delivery makes it simple, secure and cost-effective for organizations to acquire and manage endpoints, regardless of whether they have 100 or 100,000 users,” said Balaji Subramanian, Global Channel Chief, IGEL. “IGEL OS is recognized throughout the industry for its ability to prolong the useful life of existing hardware assets while delaying or eliminating the infamous ‘hardware refresh’, and with its license migration capability it enables our channel partners to further extend the hardware capital cost savings for their customers. We are proud to be recognized as a finalist for the 2020 Tech Innovator Awards, and appreciate the CRN editorial staff for continuing to recognize IGEL’s innovation in the end user computing space.”

IGEL Promotes Security and Sustainability at the Endpoint with IGEL UD3

Powered by the AMD Ryzen™ Embedded R1505G with Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics system-on-chip (SoC), the IGEL UD3 endpoint provides secure, optimized performance within virtualized and cloud workspaces. IGEL and AMD have extended IGEL’s secure “chain of trust” which reaches all the way to the target server or cloud, with a step before the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) boots, to activate the AMD Secure Processor technology, a hardware-based security processor built right into the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1505G SoC. Putting the protection right on the processor, this integration uses a dedicated security system, initiating IGEL’s secure chain of trust at the true source — the physical hardware layer.

“By installing IGEL OS 11 on aging hardware, we have been able to help our customers leverage older devices which not only resulted in tremendous cost savings (as we did not have to replace those devices), but also improved security  with IGEL’s read-only, Linux based operating system,” said Paul Kunze, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for IGEL Platinum-level Partner IntraSystems. “If we had stayed with the previous solution we would have had to replace the units to get the functionality that we required.  IGEL totally saved us! Just by way of another example, Citrix recently released an update for Citrix Workspace App, with support for Teams, which is important for work-from-home users, and IGEL delivered the necessary firmware updates within two days. Finally, the IGEL team is amazing to work with as they are so knowledgeable and helpful.”

In strong support of sustainability and “green IT”, the IGEL UD3 is built with 30% recycled (post-consumer) plastics which leads to less paint. Further, IGEL is the only endpoint device manufacturer to have taken an extra step, with AMD, to implement a customized version of the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1505G SoC, to achieve a low 10W thermal design power (TDP) for maximum energy efficiency.  Typical TDP for this AMD Ryzen SoC is between 12 and 15 watts. For more information on the IGEL UD3 with the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1505G SoC, read the info sheet “AMD and IGEL optimize the AMD Ryzen™ embedded R1505G system-on-chip for the IGEL UD3.” You can learn more about IGEL’s next-gen endpoint hardware design here or watch the video.

Deploy, Manage and Secure Cloud Workspaces at Scale with IGEL OS

IGEL OS, the next-gen edge OS for cloud workspaces, is a secure and feature-rich operating system that transforms any compatible x86-64 device into a secure, highly performing endpoint, purpose-built to connect into virtualized environments. Coupled with the IGEL management platform, IGEL OS can be easily deployed, managed, and secured at scale. Linux based, modular, with a read-only file system and featuring a unique “chain of trust” from select IGEL hardware or UEFI to destination VDI host or cloud, IGEL OS offers strong endpoint protection. IGEL OS was the first Linux based endpoint OS verified by Microsoft for Windows Virtual Desktop.

IGEL OS Version 11.04 includes multiple optimizations for unified communications, including enhanced support for Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Cisco WebEx, with extended peripheral support for Poly and EPOS products. With IGEL OS, organizations can offer a rich, immersive user experience while saving on endpoint expenditures, improving security, and reducing management costs when deploying virtualized desktop projects.

Pete Downing, Chief Marketing Officer for IGEL Platinum-level Partner XenTegra said, “IGEL has been an outstanding partner for XenTegra as they enable us to deliver to our customers a simple, smart and secure end user computing experience that is easy to manage. Our engagement with IGEL, who is strongly positioned as a leader in the secure delivery of cloud workspaces, has helped us substantially grow both our IGEL and cloud workspace business last year, which contributed to satisfied clients and award-winning work for XenTegra. IGEL continues to be strategic to our business, and to the end-user computing space as they enable a faster time-to-value due to the security and simplicity of IGEL OS.”

Growing IGEL Partner Ecosystem Continues to Transform End User Computing

IGEL began its pivot from a hardware-centric to a software-first company in 2016. Today, the company aligns with the world’s most prominent cloud technology providers including Citrix, Microsoft and VMware, to transform end user computing by simplifying and securing the cloud-delivery of all needed applications and resources. More than 100 partners integrate their hardware, software and applications into IGEL platforms as part of the IGEL Ready program that was announced earlier this year.

“CRN’s Tech Innovator Awards celebrate technology vendors that empower end users and promote business growth for solution providers with pioneering, purpose-built solutions,” said Blaine Raddon, CEO of The Channel Company. “Congratulations to each of this year’s CRN Tech Innovator Award finalists! We are honored to recognize these best-in-class vendors that are powering IT transformation and innovation.”

The Tech Innovator Awards will be featured in the December issue of CRN and can be viewed online at crn.com/techinnovators.
