Recover from Ransomware in Minutes with IGEL OS

More than 72% of organizations were affected by ransomware in 2023. With as many as 90% of successful cyber-attacks originating from the endpoint, it only makes sense to have a business continuity strategy based on the IGEL Secure Endpoint OS.

IGEL for Business Continuity enables compromised Windows endpoints to be clean booted to IGEL OS in minutes. Utilizing the same in place hardware, IGEL OS can be booted with either a UD Pocket USB drive or a pre-planned IGEL boot partition, enabling employees to connect to online services such as Office 365, Teams and Zoom to resume communications and connect to recovered services as they become available. With Business Continuity Specialist services included, organizations can minimize the cost of an outage and keep business moving even in the face of a significant disruption.

Clean-Boot Compromised Windows Endpoints

IGEL OS for Business Continuity can use the existing compromised hardware to connect users back to business-critical resources. How? When a Windows endpoint is compromised during a ransomware attack, the operating system is often altered to contain malicious code. By booting the endpoint to IGEL OS, the compromised Windows OS is completely bypassed, loading a clean IGEL OS instead. This allows administrators to get users connected swiftly while they decide whether to re-image, replace, or transition those endpoints to IGEL OS to prevent further cyber-attacks.

Work-from-Home Events

Snow, floods, rail strikes—there are many reasons why office-based workers might not be able to reach their workplace and IT equipment. In these scenarios, IGEL OS with the UD Pocket USB drives provide an ’emergency break glass’ option. Employees can use their personal x86 64-bit devices to boot cleanly into IGEL OS, gaining secure access to company resources. The Preventative Security Model™ features of IGEL OS ensure that no company data can be copied to the employee’s device. Since no changes are written to the device’s hard disk, removing the UD Pocket and rebooting resumes the users usual boot process.

Business Continuity with IGEL OS

Select from a software-only or a UD Pocket USB drive option. Both include a business continuity specialist service.

UD Pocket Option

This includes a bootable UD Pocket USB drive for each licensed endpoint. If an endpoint is compromised, users can insert the USB drive, enter the BIOS, and select the USB drive as the boot option. The UD Pocket USB is distributed in advance to users as part of the “break glass”  license for the business continuity plan. Replacement UD Pockets are included with each year of the license.

Software-Only Option

Organizations can configure Windows endpoint devices with a secondary IGEL OS boot partition as part of their disaster recovery or business continuity strategy. In the event of a compromise, users can enter the BIOS and select the IGEL boot partition.

Business Continuity Services

Preparation is critical to any business continuity plan. IGEL OS for Business Continuity includes a Business Continuity Specialist to assist in setting up the required IGEL infrastructure and configuring the endpoint image, whether for software or UD Pocket. Depending on the use case, business unit, or location of users, different requirements may arise for the endpoint, such as authentication support, virtual desktop clients, collaboration tools, and more. The Business Continuity Specialist will work with your team to define and test the image and will participate in disaster recovery and business continuity exercises throughout the year.

What Our Customers Say

In the event of an IT outage

“IGEL is also assisting us from an ongoing business resilience perspective. UD Pocket with IGEL OS is a simple solution – which comes on a thumb size USB drive – to get around the security issues of using shared equipment. In the event of an outage, we provide colleagues with a UD Pocket each which they insert into a PC, IGEL OS boots up directly, with a network connection then established to our datacenter, so Citrix can be accessed.”

IGEL to the rescue after a malware hit

“Our client took a significant hit from malware and then IGEL came to the rescue. Within a few hours, we had an entire department up and running on the IGEL Linux OS, and because we didn’t have to wipe the machines’ data, integrity on the hardware was maintained.”
